The U-N Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the occupied Palestinian territories says Israel has deprived Palestinians of their right to a state. Richard Falk has condemned Israel’s policy of building separation walls and continued settlement expansion.
The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the occupied Palestinian territories Richard Falk criticized Israel’s violation of international law by launching wars on Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. According to Falk, the Palestinians’ situation has deteriorated in the last 30 years, the number of Israeli settlers has trippled and collective punishment continues against Palestinians amid international silence. He also praised the resistance of the Palestinian people considering it as the only means to address their suffering. Falk condemned Israel’s policy of building separation walls. He said the move is proof of Tel Aviv's growing self-isolation. Falk also considered the Palestinians' call for recognition from the UN was proof of the failure of direct negotiations which have been going on for many years and proved that Palestinians see the US's so-called “advocacy of peace” as a shame. Falk explained that Obama's recent speech in the Occupied Palestinian territories stressed the importance of a security formula only for the Israelis; as Israeli military would be stationed in the Jordan valley. The UN official also said that the nuclear-armed Israel is endangering the whole Middle East region. Richard Falk stressed that Israel's misuse of military capabilities over the years have proved it to be QUOTE a "Pariah state" which is endangering the Middle East. He added that America’s unconditional support for Israel has made it an accomplice as well. He argues that since no credible peace-process is on the horizon, the only way to deal with the ordeal caused by the Israeli occupation can only be through mobilizing global support for resistance.
