An Iranian lawmaker has called on the West to put an end to acts of Islamophobia as infamous US Pastor Terry Jones plans to desecrate the Holy Quran by burning it.
“Those who claim [support for] freedom of thought and religion in the West must stop the burning of the Quran,” Seyyed Mohammad-Mehdi Pourfatemi said on Wednesday.
“Those who claim [support for] democracy and those who always see themselves as devoted to freedom of speech and thought must react to such activities and prevent the provocation of Muslims through such measures,” he added.
The remarks follow an announcement made by the radical pastor’s organization, which plans to mark the 12th anniversary of the September 11 attacks by holding an event they call “International Burning of 2,998 Qurans.”
Burning the Quran and anti-Islam behaviors basically have roots in Zionist thoughts, and this pastor is an extremist US Zionist playing a role in a game started by the Zionist regime of Israel, Pourfatemi stated.
The Iranian parliamentarian warned that the blasphemous move will spark an uncontrollable wave of outrage among over 1.6 billion people across the globe who follow Islam.
He further called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take decisive measures in confrontation with such threats, urging Muslim nations to do more in the field of media and culture to better illustrate the depravity of these sacrilegious behaviors.
In 2010, on the anniversary of 9/11 attacks, Jones burned copies of the Holy Quran, which triggered angry protests in several countries.
In November 2012, an Egyptian court sentenced the pastor to death in absentia for his role in the production of a blasphemous anti-Islam movie.
The $5-million US-made movie that insults Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was financed by more than 100 Zionist Jews, and sparked massive demonstrations across the Muslim world.
