Iran Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy says Israel will receive a severe response to the recent assassination of a senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
In a statement issued on Saturday, the committee condemned the assassination of General Hassan Shateri, saying that the Israeli regime will receive a severe response for its crime in due time and place.
The Iranian commander was assassinated by suspected Israeli agents on the way from the Syrian capital Damascus to Beirut. He was reportedly killed on Tuesday by unknown gunmen as he was traveling by road from Syria to Lebanon.
Israeli elements have been blamed for the assassination of the IRGC general, who led the Iranian-financed reconstruction projects in the south of Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Iran Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, in a message, condemned the assassination of the IRGC general, adding that the crime will not stop Iran from supporting the Lebanese nation. He noted that the Islamic Republic will continue to back Lebanon more resolutely.
In 2006, Israel launched a war of aggression against Lebanon that lasted 33 days and devastated most of the infrastructure and buildings in southern Lebanon.
Since then, Iran has played a leading role in reconstruction efforts there.
