US silent on major escalation of its terror drone strikes in Yemen
Pointing to Wednesday’s US assassination drone bombing of central Yemen as the fourth such strikes in five days, the report adds that CIA and administration officials have refused to comment on reasons for the sudden escalation of the targeted killing bid. While the report cites remarks by another unnamed administration official as claiming that US “targets militants in Yemen only when they pose a threat to American interests such as the embassy or the ambassador,” it underlines his refusal to state whether the American targeted terror strikes in different parts of Yemen in the past week “stemmed from a specific plot.” The US, according to the Long War Journal website, conducted 42 assassination drone missile strikes in Yemen in 2012 and 10 in the previous year.
The report further adds that Yemeni Human Rights Minister hooria Mashhour censured the recent US terror drone hits on Tuesday, saying, "I am in favor of changing the anti-terrorism strategy. I think there are more effective strategies.”This is while the US-imposed Yemeni President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi praised the American targeted killing bid across his country in a September visit to Washington. “They pinpoint the target and have zero margin of error, if you know what target you’re aiming at,” Hadi said at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
