At least two people have been killed in a US-led drone attack in Kunduz Province in northern Afghanistan, Press TV reports. The US-led drone strike claimed the lives of the two Afghans in Adam Khan region of Khan Abad town in Kunduz Province late Sunday. Earlier on Saturday, at least five people were killed in another US assassination drone attack in the northeastern province of Kunar. Kunar is located near the border with Pakistan and has been the scene of frequent US-led drone strikes.
Washington claims the targets of the drone attacks are al-Qaeda militants, but local officials and witnesses maintain that civilians have been the main victims of the attacks over the past few years. The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continues to rise across the country, despite the presence of tens of thousands of US-led troops. AZA/AO/HJL
