A police officer was killed in an attack in the Gaziosmanpasa district of Istanbul on December 11, 2012.

A Turkish policeman has been killed and three civilians have been injured in an attack targeting the security forces in Istanbul. On Tuesday, in the Gaziosmanpasa district of the city, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police officer, fatally injuring him, the English-language Turkish newspaper Today’s Zaman reported. Three civilians were also hurt in the incident. Paramedics rushed to the scene and took the injured to nearby hospitals. Police officer Mucahit Dasdan later died at the hospital. A bomb disposal unit was also summoned to the site after police noticed a suspicious package. One of the attackers, a woman, was captured with a grenade in her pocket soon after the attack. The police have launched an operation to apprehend the other assailants, who fled the scene. The motive behind the attack remains unknown and no group has claimed responsibility for the incident.
