At least nine people have lost their lives and two others sustained injuries in a helicopter crash in southern Morocco, medical sources say. The cause of the crash, which occurred in the city of Guelmim on Wednesday, was not immediately clear. The sources added that the seriously injured passengers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Eight of the passengers were pronounced dead on the spot and another succumbed to injuries in hospital. It is not clear whether the victims were military personnel or civilians. In 2011, at least 80 people were killed in a military plane crash in Guelmim, where the army has an airbase. The aircraft was travelling from Western Sahara to the northern Moroccan city of Kenitra.
