Passengers on a jet2 plane evacuated the plane as smoke was detected in the cabin shortly before take-off at Glasgow airport.

The incident happened about 7:40 in the morning and the passengers were taken off using inflatable emergency chutes.

The police said four passengers were taken to hospital and 13 had received medical treatment right at the scene.

The plane made an emergency stop just before the take-off due to smoke in the cabin. According to the reports, all 189 passengers were safely disembarked the aircraft and no one has been seriously injured.

The airport had to suspend flights until 10 am when the runway was reopened. Fourteen flights have been delayed as a result of the incident.

Moreover, six inbound flights were diverted and five more were cancelled, the state-run BBC reported.
