The Iranian basketball team has trounced the Philippines to reach the final match of the 2012 FIBA Asia Cup in Japan. The Iranian team defeated the Philippines 77-60 in the semifinal of the fourth Asia Cup at Tokyo’s Ota Gymnasium on Friday. Hamed Afagh was the leading scorer for Iran, providing 14 points for the Iranian squad, while L.A. Tenorio and Jared Dillinger were the top scorers for the Philippines with 13 points each. In the other semifinal match, Japan defeated Qatar 73-66 to make it to the finals. The Iranian b-ballers are undefeated in the tourney and will play Japan in the final on Saturday. Iran defeated the host team once in the preliminary round. The FIBA Asia Cup, which was known as the FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup between 2004 and 2010, is a biennial tournament. The winner of this year's tournament will automatically qualify for the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship. NT/HGL
