Iran is planning to host the 19th International Children and Young Adults Theater Festival in the provincial capital of Hamedan along with several other cities.

A group of five writing, directing and acting masters have assessed the submitted works and selected a number of them to be staged at the event, said festival secretary Shahram Karami.

Davoud Kianian, Bahram Shahmohammadlou, Mojtaba Mahdi, Hossein Safi and Naser Avijeh are the members who served at the Selection Board of the 2012 International Children and Young Adults Theater Festival.

Two renowned theatrical characters from South Africa and Germany have also been invited to attend this year’s festival.

South African theater director/writer and ASSITEJ President Yvette Hardie as well as the artistic director of Theaterhaus in Frankfurt Gordon Vajen are expected to take part in the international event, Karami noted.

ASSITEJ is the international organization of Theatre for Children and Young People (Association International du Theatre pour l’Enfance et la Jeunesse). The organization, which is affiliated with UNESCO, conducts a network of thousands of theaters, organizations and individuals in about 80 member countries.

Gordon Vajen, who was the guest of honor in the 17th edition of the festival, is also slated to attend this year’s festival.

Several workshops and meetings with the aim of boosting theatrical cooperation among the participating countries have been scheduled to be held on the sidelines of the festival, Karami said.

Iran’s 2012 International Children and Young Adults Theater Festival will be held from October 8 to 13.
