The 16th Non-Aligned Movement summit was held from August 26 to 31, 2012, in the Iranian capital, Tehran.
An Iranian lawmaker says the United States has lost the political competition over hosting the 16th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit to Iran.
Ali Jalilian, member of Iran Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said on Thursday that the political competition between Iran and the US over the NAM summit was a real war, in which the US suffered defeat and 120 countries were invited to resist in line with Iran’s stances and against the US and the Zionist regime of Israel.
Jalilian also noted that the diplomatic defeat that the US and Britain suffered from Iran in this diplomatic war will increase Tehran’s diplomatic power in the international arena.
Earlier today, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei described Tehran’s hosting of the 16th NAM Summit as a “humiliating defeat” for the enemies of the country.
Ayatollah Khamenei stated that efforts were made to create an atmosphere in which Iran would resort to self-censorship and avoid giving voice to its positions against the Zionist regime [of Israel], but the meeting was held in such a glorious manner that all those efforts were foiled.
The final resolution of the 16th NAM Summit expressed support for Iran’s nuclear energy program, rejected the United States’ unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic, and called for greater efforts to support the Palestinian cause.
