Iran has claimed two more gold medals and one silver medal on the sixth day of the London 2012 Paralympic Games to stand among the top ten teams of the tournament. Majid Farzin pocketed a gold medal in the Men's -82.5-kilogram category of powerlifting at Excel Arena on Tuesday. The 28-year-old athlete lifted 237 kilograms in his third attempt to stand in the first place. Gu Xiao Fei of china secured his silver-medal podium spot with 228 kilograms and Metwaly Mathana of Egypt finished third with 227 kilograms.
Earlier in the day, Iranian female recurve archer Zahra Nemati won the gold medal in the Women's Individual W1/W2 class.Nemati defeated Italy’s Elisabetta Mijno 7-3 in the final to claim the gold. Li Jinzhi of China beat Veronica Floreno of Italy to get the bronze. Also on Tuesday, Iran’s flag-bearer Abdolreza Jokar won the silver medal in the Men's javelin throw F52/53 class. Iran currently stands in the 9th place with ten medals -- six golds, three silvers, and one bronze. The London Paralympics opened on August 29 and runs until September 9. The Paralympic Games is the world's second largest major international multi-sport event, involving athletes with a range of physical challenges. Iran has sent 79 athletes, competing in 13 events, to the London Paralympics. AGB/AS
