We have put forth a just and entirely democratic solution. All the Palestinians -- both its current citizens [of Palestine] and those who have been forced to leave for other countries and have maintained their Palestinian identity, including Muslims, Christians and Jews, should take part in a public, carefully supervised and confidence-building referendum and choose the structure of the political system of this country.”

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says Iran has provided an entirely democratic solution to the “very important issue of Palestine,” advising the US to rescue itself from the current impossible situation.

“We have put forth a just and entirely democratic solution. All the Palestinians -- both its current citizens and those who have been forced to leave for other countries and have maintained their Palestinian identity, including Muslims, Christians and Jews, should take part in a public, carefully supervised and confidence-building referendum and choose the structure of the political system of this country,” said the Leader in an address to the opening ceremony of the 16th Summit meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran on Thursday.

The Leader stated that all the Palestinians who have suffered from years of exile should return to their country and take part in this referendum and the formulation of the constitution and subsequent elections, stressing that “peace would then be established.”

Ayatollah Khamenei also offered a benevolent piece of advice to the US politicians who have so far supported the Israeli regime.

Pointing to myriad problems which have afflicted the US as a result of supporting the Zionist regime, including Washington’s notoriety among the regional nations as well as the enormous material and spiritual costs incurred by the American nation and government over many years, the Leader stated that if Washington’s support for Israel continues, the costs will become even heavier.

Ayatollah Khamenei called on the US officials to ponder over the Islamic Republic's proposal of a referendum in a bid to cut the existing Gordian knot facing American politicians with regard to Israel, saying in that case, the Middle East region and all free-thinking people of the world will hail that measure.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei noted that on the basis of “a horrible Western plot and under the direction of the United Kingdom in the 1940s,” an independent country with a clear historical identity called “Palestine” has been usurped from its people through the use of weapons, massacre and deception to be given to a group of people the majority of them were immigrants from European countries.

“This massive usurpation which started with the mass killing of defenseless people in cities and villages and driving people out of their homes to neighboring countries, has continued with the similar crimes over more than six decades and is still going on today. This is one of the most important issues facing the human society.”

Ayatollah Khamenei argued that over decades, Israel has been labeling the Palestinian nation which has been struggling to restore its rights, as terrorists and “the media network belonging to Zionism as well as many Western and mercenary media have ignored their ethical and media commitment by repeating this big lie.”

The Leader also slammed the international human rights bodies for turning a blind eye to Israel’s atrocities and even lending support to the criminal regime of Tel Aviv.
