US-led forces in Afghanistan

In a fresh 'green-on-blue' attack in Afghanistan, a member of the Afghan Local Police has killed two American soldiers, NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) says. "Two US Forces-Afghanistan service members died this morning as a result of an insider threat attack in [the western] Farah province," ISAF said. "A member of the Afghan Local Police turned his weapon against two USFOR-A service members. The attacker was shot and killed." The attack came a week after six American soldiers were killed in a single day in a series ‘green-on-blue’ attacks, in which Afghan police or soldiers turn their guns on the foreign soldiers. US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Tuesday he was "very concerned" about the rise in "insider attacks". Some 130,000 US-led troops, due to withdraw from Afghanistan by the end of 2014, are still in the country under the pretext of ‘training and working alongside Afghan soldiers’ for the anti-militancy campaign. Yet Insecurity continues to rise across the war-torn country despite their presence. MSH/HMV/MA
