US-based Iranian filmmaker Asadollah Niknejad is slated to begin the shooting of ‘Laleh’ which will chronicle the life of the first Iranian female rally driver, Laleh Seddiq.

After becoming involved in certain controversies about its production, the film is eventually programmed to enter its shooting stage on October 2012, said film producer Alireza Sabt-Ahmadi.

The world’s standards in filmmaking and high technology in this industry are going to be applied while making the movie, Sabt-Ahmadi noted.

Skilled Iranian actors will star in the project that is programmed to be produced in English, he added.

Two American and Canadian film companies contributed to finance the main part of the budget for the production of the film.

Iran’s Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC) had earlier announced that the DEFC would provide only 25 billion Rials (USD 1.3 million) of the total costs of the project and the rest would be financed by foreign companies.

The documentary project is estimated to cost about 70 billion Rials (over USD 3.5 million), said DEFC Director Shafi Aqamohammadian.

Iran's Deputy Culture Minister for Cinematic Affairs Javad Shamaqdari commissioned his advisor Jalil Erfanmanesh to revise the screenplay of Laleh, which was written by Niknejad.

Born in 1977, Laleh Seddiq is an Iranian female driver who races both on circuits and in rallies. She has been called the "little Schumacher" after Germany's Michael Schumacher.

Seddiq, who started driving at the age of 13 under her father’s supervision, has gained many successful experiences, even better results than many of her male counterparts.
