At least one person has been killed and several others injured in heavy thunderstorms that hit southern parts of Germany overnight, Officials say.


According to police reports a 24-year-old woman was killed on a road near Guenzburg, in Bavaria, when an uprooted tree crashed into the roof of her car on Saturday evening.

Another driver was seriously injured after her car crashed into trees and turned over on a highway near Wuerzburg.

Meanwhile, in Southwestern German town of Heidenheim, 10 more people were injured, when a storm swept away tents at a rock festival.

On Friday, three women were killed and fourth badly injured during a lightning storm in the country.

The women were playing golf and retreated to a cabin on the side of the course after heavy rain came down over the city of Korbach.
