Iran’s Girls from the Gardens of Carpet has been awarded at the 2012 edition of the UNIMA Congress and World Puppet Festival in China.

Directed by Afsaneh and stage by Arian Theater Group, the puppet show received the event’s Best Heritage Award.

“Our show was awarded because of its unique perspective on Persian carpets and their patterns,” Zamani told ISNA.

Written by Hengameh Mofid, Girls from the Gardens of Carpet is about a carpet weaver girl who loses the plan for her mother’s carpet.

About 60 theater troupes took part in the festival presenting 180 performances altogether during the event.

This year’s festival was held on the theme of ‘Artery’ and in an attempt to display excellent culture elements, lead art innovation, initiate an art gala for citizens, build a platform for exchange and friendship, and realize the aims and means of UNIMA.

UNIMA (Union Internationale de la Marionnette - International Puppetry Association) is a Non-Governmental organization affiliated with UNESCO, which was founded in 1929 in Prague, the Czech Republic.

The 21st UNIMA Congress and World Puppet Festival was held May 27 to June 3, 2012 in Chengdu, China.
