World-renowned Iranian filmmaker Dariush mehrjui says he will not be able to lead the jury of the 2012 Shanghai International Film Festival.
Mehrjui had to change his plans of attending the Chinese festival because of a new cinematic project in Iran, ISNA reported.
Born in 1939, Mehrjui is regarded to be among the intellectual directors of Iranian cinema. Most of his works are inspired by literature and adapted from Iranian and international novels and plays.
Mehrjui has suggested Iranian directors Bahman Farmanara and Amir Naderi to fill the position as a jury member.
Founded in 1993, the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) is China’s only A-category international film festival accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF).
The annual festival aims to build up an international platform in an effort to promote the industry development and enhance cooperation with the rest of the world.
