Iran volleyballers trounce Taiwan

Iranian volleyball players have defeated Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) in the preliminary round of the 2011 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship, which is underway in Tehran.
The host team, which beat Afghanistan in the opener on Wednesday, overpowered Taiwan 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-17) at Tehran's Azadi Sports Complex on Thursday, Mehr news agency reported.
Iran will play against India on Friday in its last match of the preliminary round of the 2011 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship.
Iran hosts the event, which opened on September 21 and will run until September 29.
A total of 16 teams are vying for the top place of Asian volleyball.
The squads are divided into four pools for the preliminary round.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, India, Chinese Taipei and Afghanistan are in Pool A.
