Former US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld
A US federal appeals court has upheld a lawsuit accusing former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld of personal responsibility in the torture of two US citizens in Iraq.

The lawsuit was filed by Donald Vance and Nathan Ertel, who worked for an Iraqi security firm at the time of the incident, AP reported.

The ruling was made by the 7th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago on Monday and follows a similar decision by a federal court in Washington, DC.

Rumsfeld is accused of personal responsibility in the torture of the two men, who passed information about suspicious activities at the Iraqi company to the FBI.

A federal district court in Washington D.C. determined last week that the lawsuit could go forward despite the assertions that Rumsfeld has immunity in the case.

Vance and Ertel claim that US forces tortured them by sleep deprivation and making them walk into walls blindfolded.
