A national survey in the US shows that American voters are more convinced than ever that most members of the Congress are crooks.

The telephone survey by Rasmussen Reports has revealed that 46 percent of likely US voters view most members of Congress as corrupt.

Only 29 percent believed that they were not corrupt.

It further showed that a staggering 85 percent believed members of Congress are more likely to help advance their own careers than helping other people.

Additionally, 61 percent rated the performance of Congress as poor.

The survey of 1,000 likely voters conducted on July 24-25, 2011 comes as US lawmakers are been at odds over how to curb the country's massive debt and reduce its budget deficit.

Most voters do not care much for the way Democrats and Republicans are performing in the federal debt ceiling debate.

The poll also shows that just 23 percent of adults are at least somewhat confident that US policymakers know what they are doing when it comes to addressing the country's current economic issues.
