At least six people have been killed in a non-UN-sanctioned US drone attack in Pakistan's northwestern tribal region of North Waziristan.
According to the local TV channel Express, the attack took place late Tuesday when four missiles hit a house in Mir Ali, about 25 kilometres (16 miles) east of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan tribal district, Xinhua reported.
North Waziristan is home to several pro-Taliban groups engaged in fighting US-led forces across the border with Afghanistan.
Washington claims its airstrikes are directed at militants, but local officials dispute the claim and say mostly civilians have been killed in the attacks.
According to data from New America Foundation which tracks the drone strikes, the United States has conducted at least 42 strikes in 2011.
This year 72 percent of the attacks were in North Waziristan and 28 percent in South Waziristan, according to the foundation.
At least 118 drone strikes were carried out in 2010.
