Hackers have attacked the website of the Brazilian presidency and two other government sites and temporarily disrupted the websites' traffic.
The sites for Brazil's federal government, presidency, and tax collection agency were inaccessible to the public for about two and a half hours on Wednesday after hackers from the Lulz Security group launched DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks on them, a Press TV correspondent reported.
Gilberto Paganotto, the head of Brazil's computer data agency, said the hackers could not obtain sensitive data from the websites.
On a Twitter page in the name of Brazilian branch of the LulzSec hacking group, hackers justified the cyber attacks by complaining about the price of gasoline in Brazil.
The hacker attacks come as LulzSec said Monday in a Twitter message that it was seeking to hack government websites to leak “classified government information.”
LulzSec has taken credit for the attacks on Sony Corp, the CIA and other targets. The assaults have temporarily disrupted the websites and leaked user credentials.
