An Iranian lawmaker has emphasized that Iran will take action to end the oppression of the Bahraini population.
“The Saudi's should know for a fact that Tehran will use all the power and potentials at its disposal to halt the oppression of the people of Bahrain,” said Hossein Naqavi, a member of Iran's Majlis (parliament) Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, quoted by Fars News Agency on Wednesday.
“With the silence of the United Nations, Saudi Arabia has begun a military invasion in Bahrain in violation of all international regulations,” the lawmaker stressed.
Naqavi warned international organizations that Tehran would take measures to ensure regional security and said it would confront and neutralize invaders that bring instability to the region.
“Of course, we hope the Islamic Republic of Iran will not be forced to take such actions,” the lawmaker concluded.
Saudi Arabia deployed more than 1,000 troops, reportedly as part of its so-called Peninsula Shield Force to the crisis-hit Bahrain at the request of Manama.
In a similar move, the UAE dispatched around 500 police forces to the Persian Gulf monarchy on Monday.
On Tuesday, six people died and more than 1,000 others were injured in clashes between anti-regime protesters and Bahraini security forces.
