Iran is self-sufficient in manufacturing various types of drones, said Defense Minister Brigadier General Mostafa Najjar in Tehran.

"Iran's advancement in the field of the new generation of intelligent digital equipment is tremendous," Najjar said at a ceremony marking the final stage of a competition for designers and manufacturers of drones at Sharif Polytechnic University.

Elaborating on the cooperation between the country's universities and industries, he said, "Such constructive interactions can accelerate the speed of developments and advancement in the field of manufacturing intelligent machines".

Najjar reiterated, "Drones are employed in traffic control, terrestrial studies, mines exploration, meteorology, fire extinguishing, environment protection, and pesticide spraying today."

Pointing out the significance of airspace security in national defense and stability, IRNA quoted him as saying: "Among the most significant advantages of employing drones is decreasing the human casualties, increasing the country's operational capability, and increasing precision in using weaponry and other military facilities."

Appreciating the sponsors of the Drone Designing and Manufacturing Competition, he urged, "A broad and long-term look at the airspace defense issue and taking advantage of modern technologies in pursuing that objective to ensure an effective airspace defense for our country."

According to him, his ministry is ready to support scientific projects proposed by talented university students throughout Iran.
