Iran announces Oscar nominee

Iran has nominated
to compete for the 2011 Best Foreign Language Film Oscar of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
Directed by Mehdi Naderi and produced by the Iranian Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC), the 100-minute film will be Iran's representative in the 83rd Academy Awards.
The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film is annually given to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the US with a predominantly non-English dialogue track.
Song of Sparrows
and Asghar Farhadi's
represented at the 81st and 82nd Oscars respectively.
Children of Heaven
was also nominated for the 1998 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Naderi's 2010 production is set in Baghdad and depicts the lives of American and Iraqi soldiers in the war-ridden country.
is the filmmaker's first feature-length production after several documentaries and shorts.
Born in 1973 in Tehran, Mehdi Naderi started his career with directing theater performances in 1988. He has also worked as a producer, scriptwriter, advisor and editor.
