Tatarstan's Muslim filmfest kicks off

The sixth Golden Minbar International Muslim Film Festival has kicked off in Tatarstan with five Iranian films waiting to be screened.


Mohammad-Reza Abbasian's Legend, Fereydoun Hassanpour's On Foot will take part in the event's Competition Section.

Without Blue and Grey, a joint production of Iran's Niran Shirazipour and Palestinian filmmaker Jessica Haby will also compete at the festival.

Legend of 2010 by Ehsan Abdipour and The Kingdom of Solomon by Shahriar Bahrani will participate in a non-competition event of the festival, which will run until September 19, 2010, in the capital of the Tatarstan Republic, Kazan.

Mauro Martino (Canada), Anna Broynovski (Australia), Assad Taha (the UAE), Yuksel Aksu (Turkey) and Mentai Smagulovich Utepbergenov (Kazakhstan) are members of the jury this year.

The 2010 Golden Minbar International Muslim Film Festival will screen over 70 feature-length films, shorts, documentaries and animations from 28 countries including Russia, Egypt, Afghanistan, the US, France, Jordan, Italy, the UK and Norway.
