The Leader of the Islamic Revolution has agreed to extend the deadline for the investigation of three candidates' complaints about the June 12 presidential election.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei accepted a request by the secretary of Iran's Guardian Council -- which oversees the election process -- to extend the deadline, IRNA reported on Tuesday.

In a letter to the Leader, Ahmad Jannati noted that the legal deadline to review complaints lodged by the candidates will expire on Wednesday and asked for five more days in order to make sure that all ambiguities about the election are cleared up.

Candidates Mehdi Karroubi, Mir-Hossein Mousavi, and Mohsen Rezaei have all complained about alleged irregularities in the election that gave incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad another term in office.
