UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband expresses "serious doubt" over the result of Iran's disputed presidential election as EU ministers meet in Luxembourg.

EU Foreign Ministers expressed concern over "explosion of violence" following the announcement of Iran's June 12 election results.

Miliband said the Iranian government dealing with post-election riots "seems to be state violence against its own people in Tehran and elsewhere".

"The most striking thing though is that the events of recent days, the blocking of SMS messages, the closing down of TV stations the cancellation of rallies is in stark contrast to the openness, relatively speaking, of the election campaign itself," he told reporters.

Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini also made remarks on the unfolding situation in Iran saying, "What is most worrying is the explosion of violence on the squares and streets."

"We are following developments on the accusations of irregularities in the elections closely," Frattini said.

In Iran, meanwhile, clashes between Mir-Hossein Moussavi supporters and anti-riot forces after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was declared the victor of Friday's polls with 62.3% of the vote against 33.7% for Mousavi.
