Election SMS fever running high in Iran

The Telecommunication Company of Iran (TCI) says the number of text messages sent in the spirit of elections reached over 10 million two days ahead of polls.
On Tuesday alone the number of sent text messages passed the 10 million mark, head of the TCI public relations office Davoud Zareian told Mehr News Agency.
“Some 55 to 65 million text messages were sent on a daily basis before the presidential campaigns officially kicked off,” he said. “This number reached 90 million after the candidates started campaigning.”
Iranians at home and abroad will go to polls on Friday to elect their next president.
Over 46 million Iranians aged 18 and older are eligible to vote in the 10th presidential elections since the Islamic Revolution in 1979 ended monarchy in Iran.
Aside from incumbent president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is seeking a second four-year term, former prime minister Mir-Hossein Mousavi, former parliament speaker Mehdi Karroubi and Secretary of the Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaie are vying for votes in a closely contested election.
