Many young Iranians will be voting for the first time in Friday's presidential election
With less than 24 hours left until the polls open on Friday, Iran's elections supervising body calls on all presidential candidates and their supporters to cease further campaigning.

In a statement, the office announced that, according to election laws, electioneering officially ends as of 8 am (03:30 GMT) on Thursday, which means that contenders, their headquarters and their fans must end all forms of campaigning.

Campaigning activities must stop 24 hours before the polls open under the law.

Abbas Ali Kadkhodaie, spokesman of the Guardian Council, said on Wednesday that the use of any campaign symbols is banned and the voters had to avoid carrying such symbols on Election Day.

Deputy Prosecutor General for Security Affairs Nasser Seraj also enumerated 17 violations of election laws on Wednesday.

The violations include buying or selling votes, intimidation of voters or polling stations officials, ballot rigging, voting with a fake ID card, unauthorized opening or unlocking of the ballot boxes and multiple castings of ballots.

Iranians at home and abroad will go to the polls on Friday morning to elect their next president.

Over 46 million Iranians aged 18 and above, are eligible to vote in the polls -- consisting of the 10th election since the Islamic Revolution in 1979 deposed the pro-US monarchy.

In addition to incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who is seeking a second four-year term, former prime minister Mir-Hossein Mousavi, former parliament speaker Mehdi Karroubi and Secretary of the Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaie are vying for the public's votes in the closely contested election.
