Iran's Guardian Council, the body supervising elections in the country, has declared that using Iran's flags or green banners is banned on Election Day.

Abbas-Ali Kadkhodaei, the Council's Spokesman, said on Wednesday that Iran's flag and the green color have been introduced and used as the symbol of presidential candidates' campaigns.

"Using any symbol of campaigns including Iran's flag or the green color is banned and the voters should avoid carrying such symbols," Mehr news agency quoted Kadkhodaei as saying.

Presidential hopeful Mir-Hossein Mousavi chose the green color to represent his campaign while incumbent Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's supporters use Iran's flag as their symbol.

Iran's presidential elections will be held on Friday, June 12.
