India's Andhra Pradesh state is put on high alert as the Intelligence Bureau (IB) says terrorists have new plans to strike important cities in south India.

Following inputs from IB on Thursday that three terrorists in the age group of 30, had entered the country, security has been beefed up at major hospitals and crowded places including railway and bus stations in the city, City Police Commissioner B. Prasada Rao said.

The police have already begun frisking and checking operations in different localities in the city, he was quoted by The Times of India as saying.

The commissioner has asked residents to inform the police of any suspicious stranger not able to speak their native language.

Rao has also requested owners of hotels and other lodgings to keep an eye on the movement of their customers and ascertain their identity.
