Presidential hopeful Mir-Hossein Moussavi says he is 'ready' for a nuclear sit-down with the P 5+1 group but "will not compromise" on Iran's nuclear right.

Moussavi held a press conference in Tehran on Friday and discussed his plans on various issues including Iran's nuclear issue ahead of the June 12 election.

The last Prime Minister said if elected president he would be ready for negotiations with the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany but rejected any compromise on the issue, Press TV correspondent reported.

"Iran will never compromise on its right to develop nuclear technology."

"We have the technical aspect of the nuclear issue, which is Iran's development of nuclear energy for electricity needs and about which Iran is not prepared to give any concessions."

The West, spearheaded by the US and Israel, accuses Iran -- a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) -- of pursuing a nuclear weapons program.

This is while Tehran has repeatedly said that a military nuclear program does not fit in its defense paradigm, saying that its nuclear program is aimed at producing electricity to meet its growing demand.

The P5+1-- Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States -- plus Germany have requested Iran to re-enter talks over its nuclear program.

Iran also says it favors talks only within the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) without any preconditions such as halting its nuclear work.

Under the US pressure, the UN Security Council has imposed three rounds of sanctions against the country over its nuclear enrichment program.
