Somali legislature to pass Sharia bill

Somalia's parliament is set to pass a motion that would pave the way for the introduction of Islamic law (Sharia) in the country.
Deputy parliament speaker Osman Elmi Boqore said on Sunday that the lawmakers would endorse the proposal, which is to be presented soon, a Press TV correspondent reported.
The announcement comes a day after Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed accepted a peace proposal by religious clerics urging implementation of the Islamic law (Sharia).
"All the people in Somalia are Muslims, so there is no reason why the parliament should not endorse the Sharia law bill," Boqore added.
Somalia's new UN-backed unity government was created in the neighboring Republic of Djibouti after the transitional government merged with an alliance of the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC), led by Sheikh Sharif.
Most of the 550-member parliament arrived in Somalia Thursday after the make-up of the body was determined during UN-sponsored talks in Djibouti.
