Iran is set to reopen the restored structure of the country's historical city of Bam, which was devastated by an earthquake in 2003.

According to the cultural heritage office of Kerman Province, the barracks of Bam, which were greatly damaged by the earthquake has been restored and will be reopened during the 'Ten Days of Fajr' celebrations, marking the victory of the Islamic Revolution, in February 2009.

The restoration process of the barracks, which are part of the Bam Citadel and cover an area of 2400 square meters, began two years ago.

Known as the world's largest mud-brick building, the Bam Citadel was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.

The 2,000-year-old structure was almost completely destroyed by a 6.6 Richter earthquake on December 26, 2003.
