The US Senate has unanimously passed a resolution throwing an unconditional support behind the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip.
Majority Leader Harry Reid said that the US Senate adopted a bipartisan motion 'reaffirming Israel's inalienable right to defend against attacks from Gaza'.
He added that Washington would do the same if 'rockets and mortars coming from Toronto in Canada' hit Buffalo, New York.
On December 27, Israel waged war against Hamas on the Gaza Strip and began a "long-term" ground offensive on the Palestinian territory last Saturday.
Despite worldwide condemnation of Israeli military campaign in Gaza which has so far killed more than 800 Palestinians and wounded over 3200 others, the Bush administration blamed the Islamic Hamas movement for provoking Tel Aviv by firing rockets into Israel from coastal region.
Late Thursday, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution, calling for an immediate ceasefire between Hamas and Israeli forces in Gaza with the US alone abstaining.
A congressional staffer for the House Foreign Relations committee told Press TV correspondent that the resolution would not taken up for congressional hearing and it would go straight to voting for where is expected to pass overwhelmingly.
The House of Representatives is set to pass a similar resolution in the next coming days.
