India's Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said perpetrators behind coordinated attacks in Mumbai were based 'outside the country'.

Mukherjee said on Friday that initial evidence in the Mumbai attacks show the militants had links with Pakistan.

"Preliminary evidence, prima facie evidence, indicates elements with links to Pakistan are involved," Mukherjee told a news conference in New Delhi.

He also urged Pakistan to dismantle the infrastructure that supports militants.

India has in the past accused elements in Pakistan of supporting militants battling against Indian rule in the disputed Kashmir region, and of complicity in bomb attacks elsewhere in India.

Pakistan's president, premier and other top officials have condemned the attacks and promised full cooperation in fighting terrorism, however. Pakistani Defense Minister Ahmed Mukhtar said late Thursday that Islamabad "should not be blamed like in the past.''

Meanwhile, militant group Lashkar-i-Tayyiba, which is fighting Indian rule in Kashmir, has denied any involvement in the deadly attacks.

Gunmen targeted several places across port city of Mumbai late Wednesday, killing 125 people and injuring 327 others.
