A Turkish delegation is to meet Iraqi leaders over the renewed attacks by Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants from northern Iraq.

The delegation, including Turkey's special envoy for Iraq, Murat Ozcelik, and Ahmet Davutoglu, foreign policy adviser to Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, will meet Iraqi Prime minister Nuri AL-Maliki on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

"They are going to discuss bilateral relations and the recent events following the attacks the PKK has launched inside Turkey," said Yasin Majid, Maliki's media adviser.

The delegation will also meet Masoud Barzani, President of Iraq's Kurdish region, at his Baghdad residence, Fouad Hussein, a senior official in Barzani's office said.

The PKK which has been blacklisted as a terrorist organization by members of the international community started its bloody-campaign in the 1980s to create a homeland for ethnic Kurds in southeastern Turkey. The militants regularly launch incursions into eastern Turkey from their hideouts in northern Iraq.

Turkey's opposition nationalist parties along with some retired military officials had earlier proposed to set up a buffer zone inside northern Iraq for at least two years to halt PKK incursions.

Last week, Turkey's parliament approved a motion by the government that would give the green light to the Army to carry out military operations against the PKK inside Iraq for another year.
