Tehran's letter reaches Solana

The office of EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana says it has received a letter from Iran in connection with the country's nuclear program.
Solana will discuss the contents of the letter with the six world powers involved in talks over Iran's nuclear program on Wednesday, said the office.
"We have received the letter," said a member of Solana's team, without giving any more detail about the contents.
“The P5+1 need to read it and study it,” added the official, referring to the six world powers.
The announcement comes hours after several news outlets released reports about a letter that Iran had sent to Solana bearing a response to the G 5+1 package of incentives.
However, the reports were quickly rejected by Tehran, which said that the letter was nothing but a transcription of a telephone call between Solana and Iran's top Nuclear Negotiator Saeed Jalili.
"What was handed over to EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana was a written transcription of the discussions he had with Iran's Top Nuclear Negotiator Saeed Jalili over the telephone yesterday, not a response to the (Group) 5+1 package of proposals,” an official at the Supreme National Security Council told IRNA on Tuesday.
The statement released by Solana's office did not clarify the matter any further.
In a telephone conversation on Monday, Jalili and Solana agreed to continue talks on the incentive package, which requires Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) signatory Iran to abandon its uranium enrichment program in return for political and economic benefits.
The phone conversation came a day after a US deadline for Iran to give its answer to the package expired.
Tehran has said that any ultimatum set by the West would damage the ongoing dialogue, citing diplomacy as the only acceptable means for ending the nuclear standoff.
