Murphy received the Bronze Star for his military service in Iraq
US Democratic Congressman Patrick Murphy says there are hundreds of detainees at the Guantanamo Bay Prison being held without trial.

"What we don't want to see is the fact that we have hundreds of folks in Guantanamo Bay, who have never had their day in court," Murphy told Press TV on the sidelines of a hearing held by the House Armed Service Committee on Friday to address the Guantanamo detainees' issue.

"As a former army soldier [who] served in Iraq, I am going to support and defend the constitution in the United States of America. The fact is the America that I fought for is one that understands that we are not perfect . . . we have a lot things to do when it comes to justice [especially with regard to] what is going on in Guantanamo Bay right now."

Democratic Congressman John Spratt also questioned the legal process at the prison saying that there were many grey areas regarding the legal rights of detainees.

"There are many questions that still open to interpretation. How do you treat coercive testimony? How do you treat exculpatory evidence? Do we deal with it in the same way as standard ordinary criminal prosecution? It's not clear," he said.

The Bush Administration is under heavy criticism from rights activist groups across the United States for the detention of prisoners at the facility in contravention of international human rights laws.
