Iran's Vice-President has envisioned good potential for development of political and economic relations between the country and Iraq.
Tehran-Baghdad relations, particularly their economic ties are being promoted significantly, Parviz Davoodi told reporters prior to the departure of Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki on Monday.
The senior Iraqi officials' visit to Tehran set the stage for the implementation of the sealed agreements between the two neighboring countries, he added.
He voiced Iran's support for al-Maliki's government and termed the establishment of peace and stability in Iraq as one of the basic principles of Iran's foreign policy.
The Iranian vice-president reiterated Iran's readiness to contribute to the reconstruction of the war-torn country.
The Iranian and Iraqi officials are set to hold a joint commission within two months after reviewing the previous accords and projects during al-Maliki's three-day visit to Tehran.
Iran and Iraq also sealed an agreement on Monday to promote defensive cooperation with the aim of restoring peace and stability to the region.
