Germany is scheduled to rename the main square of its southern city of Friedrichshafen after the renowned Iranian epic poet, Ferdowsi.

During Germany's Ferdowsi Cultural Week, a statue of the poet will be unveiled and erected in the square.

Researchers and members of Iran's Ferdowsi Foundation will participate in the cultural event, delivering lectures about the poet and his masterpiece Shahnameh.

The Ferdowsi Cultural Week will be held in fall 2008 by the Iranian embassy in Germany and the Friedrichshafen municipality.
