The 100th birthday of the late Iranian poet Parvin E'tesami has been commemorated in a ceremony held in the Turkish capital of Ankara.
Scholars from Iran and Turkey discussed the cultural and social origins of E'tesami's literature as well as her influence on contemporary Iranian literature during the event Monday.
"Although women were socially deprived, Parvin managed to go beyond the established rules. She presented Iranian women as talented and thoughtful citizens," said Sharareh Kamrani, one of the lecturers at the event.
E'tesami is widely considered the greatest poetess of the Persian classical style. In her short but successful literary career, she portrayed the loneliness and suffering among Iranian women at the time.
E'tesami also explored with sarcasm and satire the cruelty and corruption among the rulers and wealthy landlords.
Monday's event was sponsored by the Iranian cultural attaché to Turkey and the Persian Poetry Council.
