The Nepalese went to the polls for landmark election on Thursday.
Results from the landmark Nepal vote on its political future are trickling in with the final results expected in 10 days, officials say.

The polls were an outstanding part of Katmandu's peace deal with Maoist insurgents, and will lead to the formation of a 601-seat assembly. The assembly will rewrite the constitution and is likely to bring the monarchy to an end.

"Results have already started trickling in. Districts have started giving the news update on the results," Election Commission spokesman Laxman Bhattarai said on Friday.

He noted that there are some areas where the ballot boxes are still coming and it may take some time due to remote geographical conditions. Bhattarai expressed hope that all the results would come out within 10 days or sooner.

Some 60 percent of Nepal's 17.6 million voters flocked to the polls on Thursday. The United Nation peace mission hailed the vote, describing it as a display of 'irresistible fervor' for a peace process in the Himalayan state.
