'Iran broke nuclear monopoly'

Senior Iranian lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi says that April 9 has been registered as a historic day in Iran's contemporary history.
The chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission noted that the country's scientists and all those who contributed to the achievement of Iran's nuclear victory would be honored on the National Day of Nuclear Technology.
Referring to the monopoly on nuclear technology by a few advanced countries, Boroujerdi noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran managed to acquire this technology through national independence and native knowledge, in spite of political and international pressures.
Given Iran's right to acquire peaceful nuclear technology as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and its full observance of the rules and regulations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Western states, including the United States, have no choice but to accept the reality of a nuclear Iran, he noted.
Iran's enemies should come to terms with the fact that Iran is a nuclear country and is determined to use the technology for peaceful purposes, the MP said, adding political pressure will not force the country to give up its rights.
Commenting on the West's call on Iran to stop its uranium enrichment activity, Boroujerdi termed the request illegal, saying, as an NPT signatory, Iran is within its full rights to proceed with its peaceful enrichment program.
