Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has voiced his support for Iran's right to acquire peaceful nuclear technology.

Iran has the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes provided that it cooperates with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), KUNA news agency quoted the Emir as saying in an interview with Turkish Today's Zaman on Sunday.

Asked if he is concerned over “Iran's growing influence”, he said Iran is an important and friendly country, and Kuwait has common interests with the nation.

Sheikh Sabah arrived in Turkey late Sunday on a landmark state visit.

The first provision of Article IV of the Non- Proliferation Treaty states that 'nothing in this Treaty shall be interpreted as affecting the inalienable right' of member states to pursue the use of nuclear energy 'for peaceful purposes'.
