Recent studies have revealed that the majority of chemotherapies used to fight cancer in modern medicine derive from natural substances.

According to the study published in Molecular Cancer Therapeutics, about three-quarters of the pharmaceutical compounds used today came from plants used in traditional medicine.

The study reports Taxanes used to treat prostate and breast cancer come from yew trees, whereas Vinca alkaloids for malignant lymphomas are from periwinkle and the anti-cancer drugs topotecan and irinotecan are extracted from a Chinese Happy Tree component.

Scientists claim the extracts from 18 plants can significantly suppress the growth of cancer cells.
