IRIB Chief Zarghami watches Iranian TV channels on his cell phone.
Cell phones bring TV services to Iranian mobile users, utilising the latest technology in Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H).

Mobile TV via cellular networks allows viewers to enjoy personalized, interactive TV, with content specifically adapted to the mobile medium.

The service brings ten television and four radio channels to mobile phones including the 24-hour English-language news channel Press TV.

“Downloaded images using DVB-H system allows for a much higher quality when compared with downloads using an analogue system,” Ezzatollah Zarghami, president of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) said.

“The project has started in the Iranian capital of Tehran but soon will be available in the entire country.”

After Qatar, Iran is the first Middle Eastern country to implement such technology.
