Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
The Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the US invaded Iraq to set up a base in a bid to tighten its grip on the Middle East.

The US, however, faced the Iraqi nation's resistance, Ahmadinejad told the Iraqi TV station al-Iraqiya.

The Iranian President added terrorists' training centers and their communication roads in Iraq are known and if the US honestly sought to prevent militants from infiltrating into Iraq, it would succeed.

He stressed that Tehran is ready to help Washington stop the infiltration of terrorist into Iraq.

The Iranian President said one cannot expect a miracle from a few rounds of talks between Iran, the US and Iraq, adding that if Washington respected the regional nations, the negotiations would yield results sooner.

Whenever the White House makes mistakes and fails, it puts the blame on others, he concluded.
